Who God Says You Are: You May Be Surprised!

There has been a lot of talk in media, articles and books about self-love and self-worth over the last few years. As part of popular culture self-anything has been a “thing” for decades.

Many people struggle with these concepts. I think, especially us ladies struggle with it. I know I do!

The world insists we be perfectly coiffed, made up, dressed to the nines, while juggling the kids, getting supper on the table, running the entire household and having a fabulous career.

The world tells us if we are not “x” size and don’t have “x” clothes, shoes, purses, or live in “x” neighborhood, we are not really a success.

No wonder our confidence struggles to buoy us. No wonder self-love seems out of reach. No wonder why the truth ofwho God says you are can be so hidden!

Self-love through my eyes
My self-love and self-worth have been tied to a litany of poor behaviors and choices in my life.

As a result, my confidence in myself has been low since my early middle school years.

I bought into all the things my peers, television, movies, and music told me I should be. Even the well-meaning things my mother wanted me to be dealt further blows to my fragile self-assurance.

I did not love myself. In fact, there have been many times I hated myself. I could not see one thing about me that was worthy of love.

So, I learned coping mechanisms instead. I “loved” myself with food and shopping. I indulged in negative self-talk.

At school and later at work I became a wallflower and got used to being a doormat. How I viewed myself resulted in little respect for me and no respect from others.

It’s okay if you feel like I am speaking about your story. Stand up friend. Raise your hand sister.

I see you. I am you.

Self-worth through God’s eyes
As Christians, rather than looking inward for our self-worth and self-confidence, or outward to the world, we need to turn our eyes to scripture and what God says about us. Thank goodness that you are who God says you are, not what YOU say you are!

Maybe you are not sure what God would say about you. Perhaps you wrongly believe you have too much dirty laundry, too much baggage, for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords to give you a thought.

Maybe you are afraid that you could be beyond His love.

You could not be more wrong. God’s grace, the sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ on that cross was for everyone. Every. Single. One.
There is nothing you can do to place you beyond the reach of God…Jesus’ death ensured that.

He loves you so much that “He always lives to intercede” on your behalf.

Your self-worth and self-love are possible because He said so

I want to share with you some things that I know God would say about your worth and value.

Things that will boost your self-confidence right now.

How do I know? I know because I have experienced these truths firsthand.

It took me a long time to love myself and I pray these verses help you get there quicker than I did sister.

I am so glad the following verses exist in scripture to illustrate clearly how valued we truly are. I am grateful my self-worth does not rely on the world’s economy.

I am becoming confident and able to exercise self-love and self-care because I now know the truth.

Satan wants to keep us bound up in lies, but he can’t unless we let him. Stand on the Word as “the truth will set you free”. And in His truth are so many Bible verses about self worth that can only come from God.

Bible verses about self worth to improve your self-love

We all are familiar with the Proverbs 31 woman. The passage contains desirable qualities and traits of this remarkable woman who kept household and outside career in perfect balance.

Of course, we want to be labelled as such a woman!

Yet, I fear this passage does not inspire women to self-confidence as the list of characteristics and work of Mrs. Proverbs can seem overwhelming to meet.

I ask you turn instead to the following verses to boost your self-love and self-worth.

1. Psalm 139:14

Conclusion: Who God Says You Are

Self-love and self-worth are God given.

You are no accident, nor are you the sum of your past mistakes. God brought Himself to earth to live anddiefor you…you areLOVED.

You have incredible worth and value to God. You can absolutely walk in confidence when you realize this. You cannot help but love yourself when you acknowledge how much you are loved.

It is not dependent on your abilities, your characteristics or you trying harder to please. Even when things seem to be going as bad as they possibly can, you are still loved, still worthy and still valued.

It all depends on Him. His word is true, His promises are sure, and He is forever faithful.

So, stop the pity party. Get off the negativity train. Quit being a worrying Wanda, wondering what everyone thinks about you.

He is enough therefore you are enough. He thinks you are His beloved.

And so do I.
